History
Founded in 1895 by Abe Zimmerman in New Holland, Pennsylvania, originally the company produced only agricultural products—though now they also manufacture construction equipment. In 1947, New Holland made a big breakthrough in hay harvesting technology by launching the Haybine mower-conditioner. In 1975, they introduced the first twin-rotor combine, the first of its kind in the world and still being used today.
Over the years, the company was acquired by different corporations, like the Sperry Corporation in 1947, the Ford Motor Company in 1986 and FiatAgri in 1991. In 1999, New Holland became a part of CNH Industrial. Despite these changes, the company didn’t lose focus on what mattered most and kept giving the world great machines that cut down on time and effort for the farming community.
For their continued innovations and breakthroughs, the company was rewarded with customer loyalty and notoriety as one of the biggest names in agricultural equipment around the world. Today, New Holland equipment is manufactured globally, with Turin, Italy serving as the administrative headquarters. The American headquarters are located in New Holland, Pennsylvania, as is the largest hay tool production facility in the world.
Initiatives
Over the years, New Holland has followed the principles of sustainable farming methods and strives to be as eco-friendly as possible. They developed the Energy Independent Farm, where farmers can generate the energy they need to run their agricultural equipment. How this works is by using hydrogen generated from renewable sources (like wind, biomass, solar, etc.). The electricity is converted to hydrogen, which is stored in high-pressure tanks, ready to be used as free and clean fuel when required. New Holland’s NH2 tractor is a hydrogen-powered beast.
There are other ways New Holland contributes to the world. They have a partnership with the British Beekeepers’ Association to try and stop British bee colonies from being wiped out. They developed the Carbon Footprint Calculator, which shows a comparison between the Tier 4A/Stage IIIB and previous engine emissions regulations.
With these great strides in the agricultural sector, every time New Holland comes up with a new machine or new tech application, they gain even more dedicated customers.
