Starting Problems

One common issue you may need to troubleshoot is a starting problem. If your mower isn’t starting or it starts and stops, you probably have a clogged carburetor. The most common culprit of a clogged carburetor is leaving fuel in the mower while it’s not in use. Use a carburetor cleaner to solve this problem.

Another reason your machine may have trouble starting is a damaged spark plug. To troubleshoot this issue, check for any signs of damage. Use a spark plug tester to see if it’s defective. You may need to replace your spark plug.

Battery Problems

Does your lawn mower battery keep dying on you? This is another issue you may need to troubleshoot. One or more cells in the battery may have died! Charge the battery. If it doesn’t hold a charge, you’ll need to get a new battery. Use a multimeter to see if the charger is giving proper voltage output. You can also check on the alternator.

Blade Problems

If the blades of your machine are not engaging, there may be an issue with the power take-off switch (PTO). Don’t worry! This is common, and you can definitely troubleshoot this issue. Pull out your multimeter to check if the switch is damaged. If your switch is fine, the damage may be to your PTO clutch. If the PTO clutch is the issue, you’ll need to replace it.

Gas Leak Problems

One mower repair you may need to make involves a gas leak. To start troubleshooting, find out where the leak is happening. Some common places where leaks occur include the bottom of the carburetor, the float needle, or the fuel shut-off valve.

Overheating Problems

Overheating is another issue you can troubleshoot. With a little preventative care, you can avoid this. Sometimes bits of grass, leaves, and debris can clog the equipment’s cooling fins inside the engine. Clean your mower at regular intervals or after heavy use to ensure your machine doesn’t overheat.
